Blues Chords or 7th chords are essential to playing guitar. Some Blues Chords are easy to play and some aren't so easy to play. Blues usually follows the 1 - 4 - 5 rhythm, which means that if a chord progression starts on A (1) then will go to D (4) then to E (5) and then back to A (1). Here's an example: A - 1, B - 2, C - 3. D - 4, E - 5, F - 6, G - 7. When someone mentions a Blues Chord, they are referring to the 7th chord. Blues chords emphasize the 7th note in the chord or in the scale and which is a relatively new theory to music. Blues chords can be alot of fun to jam with and make up your own chord progressions with.

One More Thing....
Here are two finger shapes that will allow you to form the same chords up above in different places of the fretboard. All you have to do is move these very blues chord shapes up and/or down the fretboard to get other chords out of them. Depending on what note your pointer finger is on, the low E or A string, determines the name of the chord. Move these shapes up and down the fretboard and it's like learning 20 chords when you've only learned one, because your fingers don't change.
Blues chords definately add a bluesy or rock flavor to your music. Incorporate them whenever you choose, or a popular thing to do is when you end playing a song, on the chord or note you end on, play the Blues chord or 7th chord of the same note you ended with. It adds a nice little touch to your music.
